  1. Bravo, Jarvis!
Good to know that someone else has an oddball record collection like myself.
It has even got me listening to community radio again @ home, reminding me of my old
    days!
BTW today was the 1 year anniversary of the “Black Saturday” Bushfires in SE Australia. All of our thoughts are with you, and with Jarvis’ charming on -air personality, we can get thru anything!
And I don’t care whether he had false teeth or not on the 1st show!!! He could read the phonebook and I’d be content with that, even.

Ok, I’m waxing lyrical now, I will part by saying I wait to hear Jarv’s soothing, dulcet tones on Monday, sometime…….:)

  2. P.S. Jarvis will be pleased to know that Empire of The Sun scooped the pool @ the recent ARIA (Australian Music Awards)!
    Nice to hear them!

  3. Fantastic show, listening to it after the fact (though it’s timeless!) in North Carolina through the inter-webs.
    Many, many thanks!

By simon woodrup at Feb 12, 23:22 #

  4. Re Empire Of The Sun, they will be performing in my town around May, for the “Groovin’ the Moo” regional music festival. Won’t be there (too ruddy cold @ the showgrounds!!!) but will no doubt hear the ‘doof – doof ‘ (slang for dance beat!!!) over yonder from home sweet home!
And Jarvis, please be considerate as well as credible on the 14th, for the other singles as well as the couples with the music choice.
Then the rest of us will find the occassion more bearable, thank you :)

  5. Oi Cocker !

what were playlist from valentines show on’t 6 music mush ?

By bob dodds at Feb 20, 11:22 #

  6. Well, let’s see, Bob,
He had the Muppets, “Corrina, Corrina” by Bob Dylan (NOT Ray Peterson, different piece!) Nina Simone, indie darlings Sebadoh, mate Richard Hawley with ‘Valentine’, Hall & Oates (!) to name but a few.
A strange twist was playing “Tell Her U love Her “, by Stanley Myers, which was sampled for PULP’s 2001 hit “Trees.” Had to steel myself to listen @ times :(((

Speaking of telling people you love them, ‘tho, today is my mother’s birthday… some people are not above giving family members respect on VD. Anyway, Happy Birthday to Mother!

By KARYN BROWN at Feb 20, 20:31 #

  7. Oh yeah, Mum shares her birthday with Nina Simone! These Pisceans, I dunno….lol! Note to Jarv, Pisces is polar opposites to Virgo…. into astrology ;)

  8. Deepest sympathies to Jarvis’ Chilean fanbase re earthquake…..

By KARYN BROWN at Feb 28, 03:37 #

  9. Also the NME awards this year looked like a ball of fun (pardon the pun!) felt like I was there watching it on Utube – bonus points for the dress code!

  10. Jarvis should be in his element doing his Dr. Who interview – it’s a holiday tomorrow in Oz, so I will enjoy proceedings this time, without having 2 rush around.

Weather -wise, SE Australia copped some flash flooding of extreme levels, I’m grateful for a hill! Water levels should be satisfactory ‘tho! Hail the size of LEMONS!!! Phew, what next?!

By KARYN BROWN at Mar 7, 06:26 #

  11. This message is not directed @ Jarvis, ‘cos I realise he’s only doing his job but it is a bit rough of the BBC to pull the latest instalment of his show from iPlayer (which is what a non-technophobe uses quite happily to get her weekly dose!) and put it on selected, not 2 mention complex, devices!
Oh well, I was SO looking forward to it…….:((((

By KARYN BROWN at Mar 7, 23:41 #

  12. Why did they pull it?

Anyway you can listen to it at a lower quality on the Real Audio feed still:

    By tim at Mar 8, 02:11 #

  13. oh and will it be back at higher quality?

I was so looking forward to listening to the show, but RealAudio stream is a bit watery and sounds not great (better than nothing though)…I missed bits of the Pete Kember Delia talk…

Thanks Jarvis for mentioning the film – I went and requested a DVD after that, I need to see that film…I’m a bit of a Delia fan too ;-)

    By tim at Mar 8, 02:17 #

  14. Yeah, any idea why it was pulled? And thanks tim for posting the other link. Better than nothing, but I do hope they get the full quality version back up. Thought I’d have to go this week without a Jarvis fix.

I’m not exaggerating when I say that this is the best show on the radio.

By Tim John at Mar 8, 13:18 #

  15. It appears to be back on iPlayer!

By Tim John at Mar 8, 13:45 #

  16. They edited the interview, where Pete Kember talked about the bitchy queens at the BBC bitching about Delia at her funeral.

Thankfully I have a recording of the RA feed with I think it on…

As regards editing that, unless it was a request from Pete – that’s a bit crap.

    By tim at Mar 8, 18:11 #

  17. Radio can be like that, Tim, speaking from experience :) Then again, 2 hrs can fly by or it can move along rather slow, having done a show of that particular length :) Great they have got the show back up! Currently listening to the re-interpretation of Queen’s “Radio Ga Ga” buckled over with laughter!! My favourite Queen piece, from 1984, sharp ending ‘tho. Hope the funding is OK @ 6 music…. it’d be terrible if they had to pack it in…. the BBC have redeemed themselves in my eyes @ the moment, however.

By KARYN BROWN at Mar 8, 21:34 #

  18. Love the shift in record speed too, on one of the tracks… a common but amusing mistake ;) , for a moment, the Marine Girls were far from lazy, hee hee! See, kids, u can’t do THAT with an mp3!

By KARYN BROWN at Mar 8, 22:01 #

  19. Re: Jarvis Cocker BBC battle : “They made me welcome and they gave me a show & said I could do what I want. And that is a very rare thing”. Well, I can say the same was said to me in community radio ranks, but the true beauty is, in a non- commercial setting where you are NOT told what to play, people enjoy your specific music tastes, (mostly!) from your own collection, and from the the time I did my shows in the mid-90’s to late 2000’s, it has been a ball! ‘Tho you of course, had to play a block of sponsorship ads here and there, for they were our bread & butter.

And Jarvis, I will have you know that I have spun your Pulp remixes with great joy in the past! :)))

By KARYN BROWN at Mar 9, 05:03 #

  20. It’s great, Jarvis! I love your radio show every Sunday. You’re cool but please, reform PULP! Oh, I will 17
when I heard the countdown start – my 17th birthday will take place at March, 13.

    By FRL-KEANE-RUSSIA at Mar 10, 12:21 #

  21. FRL, it’d be great if Jarvis could reform Pulp, but on the flipside, he’s made his money, and wants to enjoy his family and other pursuits, I gather, @ this time.

Of course, he could keep his solo career in check with the odd release here & there.
I’m happy with a broadcast, however!
BTW with great confidence, I can say I have met two members of Pulp, thanks to a lucky break ;)
Happy birthday from a fellow water sign (Scorpio!)

By KARYN BROWN at Mar 10, 20:43 #

  22. New here but an old time pulp fan, i don’t think pulp are going to reform but it would be great if there was a reunion tour, there are thousands and thousands that would just love it to happen.
p.s @ karyn, i can see you are a big pulp fan and also a scorpio, i know Jarvis is a virgo and i am not a sign beliver myself but my mom is a scorpio married to a sagittarius my dad for 36+ years, so is a good friend of mine who is a sagittarius and married to a scorpio and a cousin of mine who is a sagittarius too and he’s also married to a scorpio, seems these signs match very well, i am a libra myself.

    By Bill at Mar 12, 10:56 #

  23. Nice to know, Bill! I know for a fact when I met Steve Mackey backstage in Sydney, that he told me his birthdate was November 10, which is Scorpio. For the record, I asked from an open-minded point of view, NOT a ‘groupie’ point of view, just to point that out!

Good of Jarvis to mention some time ago, that Richard Hawley, the back -up guitarist, was born on Jan. 17th, that’s Cappy (i.e. Capricorn!) No wonder he was affable! Capricorn is an Earth sign like Virgo. For all the reports of that sign being aloof, and status – conscious their ‘earthy’ nature makes them easy to converse with.

By KARYN BROWN at Mar 12, 20:49 #

  24. Karyn you were lucky to meet Steve, sounds like it was lot of fun talking to him, i didn’t know he was also a scorpio.. don’t know you’re status (married-single-etc).. but if my surounding history serves me correct then you should check out for those sagittarius folks ;)
It was written in the papers that Pulp might re-unite and play at the Glastonbury Festival in june, if that occurs i’m gonna be there as it is just a couple of hours drive from my house.

    By Bill at Mar 13, 11:24 #

  25. Actually, Bill, he was quite surprised that I knew his sign.
For the uninitiated, I will explain yet again how I got in that position: In 1998, an Australian music publication known as “JUICE” was asking the million – dollar question, “Why do you want to PARTY HARD with Pulp,” to which I responded : “So I could wear LIPGLOSS with COMMON PEOPLE.”

Thus, I got to see them for free and have a natter with Steve backstage. The thing that I found most touching, was that he mentioned to me, a person he just met, how much he missed his family, which I thought was sweet.
He also talked about Pulp touching down in Oz from Stockholm, which is also what I recall. He’s a little quiet & reserved, but likes to socialise.
