Currently listening to the Laurie Anderson interview, I always thought from past ones I’d seen in Australia that she is lovely to converse with. This is no different :) Being of the era, “ O Superman” her solitary hit in Australia, was a fascinating piece.
Re Pam Ayres, as soon as I heard her reciting her poem – the memories came flooding back, Capital Theatre, 1992, unwinding after my exams with a family member. We were sitting front row (baby!) listening to an animated version of ‘Do U Think Bruce Springsteen Would Fancy Me!!!’
Classique! One thing I meant to mention a while ago, one of our former more credible Aussie Idols,
Damien Leith, had named his son JARVIS…. I’m not kidding! Whether he knows of the great man is debatable (he originally came from Ireland, ‘tho). & he always went against the grain with indie covers.Hope Jarvis’show does well with the nominations, it would certainly boost the profile of the show. No offence, of course, but whether I vote will depend on the degree of difficulty involved :)

Re air disaster in UK/ Europe hope all gets back to normal for everyone ASAP :)
C’est la vie……Celebrating the return of a veteran of Aussie radio JOHN “Hello World” LAWS to his beloved ‘Golden Microphone’. Like Jarvis he ‘never wanted to do what other people did’ when it came to broadcasting, but admitted that getting nervous was the key to putting on a good show (See, Jarv ;))
He also wisely mentioned about the rigours of success & thought there should be an extra commandment : “Thou shalt not excel” something Jarvis would relate to!By KARYN BROWN at Apr 18, 00:01 #

Jarvis,
from one (ex!) DJ to another, don’t be hung up about repeating a song here & there, remember the old saying, ‘PLAY IT AGAIN, SAM!” If the audience enjoys the tune, it’s a bonus :)))))))By KARYN BROWN at Apr 22, 02:02 #

Today, in Australia, our time, (25th) it is ANZAC DAY, in honour of our war veterans.
From the “ODE OF REMEMBRANCE,” 1914:
“THEY SHALL NOT GROW OLD, AS THOSE THAT ARE LEFT GROW OLD:
AGE SHALL NOT WEARY THEM, NOR THE YEARS CONDEMN,
AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN AND IN THE MORNING WE WILL REMEMBER THEM”.The men did their service, so that we could enjoy our “SUNDAY SERVICE” :)
May Candida & Richard giveth great session….
I will listen tomorrow on the traditional day off……;)By KARYN BROWN at Apr 24, 23:26 #

Well, I cried tears of joy this morning when Candida let fly an old standard by FATS WALLER, I used to dance to his music as a very young toddler (my grandfather once played in a ragtime band & idolised him!)
Loooove that trademark stride piano – might pull put “THE JOINT IS JUMPIN” now……;) I knew there was SOME logic behind my being a Pulp fan ;)
Much kudos!!!!!Richard has a lovely radio manner, (no offence, Jarv!) but he could give the dreamy deadpan a run for it’s money…. BRAVO, chaps & chappettes!

PS, Candida’s Scottish country dance reference had me thinking of old school days learning the moves (our teacher was Scottish).

You may remember a little while ago, I mentioned Empire Of The Sun….well, as predicted, and as we speak, I could hear them playing from “Groovin’ The Moo” (a sold – out festival btw) tonite. The strains of “Walking On A Dream” were quite audible, not to mention PUMPING from my place just now.

Listening to the latest show as a wake -up call. Pity that Jarv couldn’t have his holiday in Costa Rica (plenty of time, tho :) given the events of the last couple of weeks, but it was nice for him to touch base @ home with his Mum.
Speaking of, OUR Mother’s Day comes up this weekend on the 9th. Oz shares this with Canada, the US & NZ :))))))

PS Nice that Jarvis remarked on the wild horses in his home country, that would have been a sight & a half, particularly in this day & age. I assume they would be derived from Welsh Mountain ponies. Our version of the wild horse (generally scruffy thoroughbreds) are slightly under threat given the recent droughts.
Hilarious cavalry remark, too, from the Mike Palin interview, I am big on the equines :)

‘Scuse my overtyping of one word – the above post is quite exciting :)))) In the photo, the girls look really happy, standing next to E.H., with the wall of gold & platinum discs behind them.
I suspect the release will be dance – pop,
can’t wait for the end result. It may break them @ home, too. UK & Europe could follow, possibly.
Since I give credit where it is due, it comes from page 25 of Thursday’s Herald Sun.By KARYN BROWN at May 6, 23:45 #

The girls’ sound is modelled on that of the Pussycat Dolls & Destiny’s Child.
Single due for release mid year… should be interesting to say the least.By KARYN BROWN at May 7, 12:30 #

Just read that ‘young’ (hee hee!) Jarv has carried off the “Rising Star” Award! I hope that this is gospel (i.e. Aussie slang for truth!) Best reason to spend 1/2 a second on a computer while holidaying!
Smiles all round :))))))))btw I totally agree with a statement in a report that Jarv made about radio – re early starts.
Yes, having worked in radio, u need to be a special breed to do those shifts.
Nothing wrong with an afternoon slot, however ultimately, it’s whatever works!By KARYN BROWN at May 11, 08:06 #

Checked the facts – & sure as eggs, he is victor! For a 1st -time DJ and a station in need, it has panned out perfectly.
The saying ‘knowledge is power’ rings true in his approach and has worked in his favour.
I’m very happy for him :)))))By KARYN BROWN at May 11, 08:51 #
